Duke Nukem Forever (full game out for X360/PS3 and PC)


Igra za koju se smatralo da je mrtva ipak dolazi i to za PC, PS3 i X360 i to u izdanju Gearboxa. O happy days.

Ali igra je stvarna, njen demo je igriv na show floor-u PAX sajma i snimci koji non stop stiu sa neta nas uveravaju da su gameplay i grafika sasvim zadovoljavajući. Gearbox je obećao da će se oficijelni trejler igre uskoro pojaviti na netu a redakcija EmuGlx-a će vas naravno obavestiti o tome.

Prekinuti razvoj igre nakon vie od 10 godina i potroenih 20+ miilona dolara bi bio najgluplji potez u istoriji svemira. Ne razumem ljude koji su u to verovali, ali bitno je da vie niko ne sumnja da Duke stie :)

This is Vegas nije bio u razvoju ni 5 godina :) Za njega je već mnogo stvari urađeno, tako da Gearbox ne radi igru ispočetka, već uobličava to to je preuzeo od 3D Realmsa.

Ako Duke Nukem ForNever stvarno izadje vidicese konacno sta su u tih 13 godina uradili i sta ih je naceralo da uprkos toliko godina igru ipak izbace na trziste,ja ocekujem igru godine (sve ispod bi bio fail).

Ma to sto su oni "radili" 13 godina kompletno moze da bude scrapovano, jedino ako iskoriste njihove ideje za nivoe i slicno... jer osim ideja nista sto su im ostavili vise nije upotrebljivo danas.

Gearbox je uzeo sve sto je bilo napravljeno u zadnjoj verziji DNF-a [video snimak od pre godinu dana] i od toga ce nabudziti nesto. Vec se vidi da su dodali tonu efekata kojih nema u ovom snimku [senke, dof i sl]

Bilo je dosta šuškanja o ovome. Pre možda mesec dana ili manje sam baš pomenuo ortaku ovo. Čak se i Gearbox spominjao tako da, I was kinda prepared, mada nisam znao niti mogao znati da će imati igriv demo spreman. Fino fino. :)

pa taman to .. to sto su oni predali bi trebao da bude unutrasnji kvalitet i da igri da smek koji su hteli da postignu ljudi iz 3d realms-a, a ovi lepo to zapakuju, i svima dobro :)

I'm not trying to discount anyones efforts as I have nothing to gain at this point. I just want to the truth out there in some form or fashion.

History of DNF by "A Black Falcon" from GAF

On a related note, here's what we know about what actually happened in the last three years of DNF...

-3DR never had more than 40-odd people, trying to make a AAA game. Consider that most AAA games these days have teams in the hundreds -- the number of actual hours spent on the game isn't that absurd compared to others this generation.

-They started over several times, because Broussard particularly was never satisfied and wanted to add new stuff every time stuff appeared in other games in the genre that he felt the game couldn't be without. Years of work were wasted with restarts.

-In 2007, 3DR increased the size of the team, to 40-something, hiring new people. The lead (below Miller and Broussard) of this version of the game was the first one to resist his attempts to add more stuff. The game finally started really rolling forward. We saw results soon -- in late 2007 they released a teaser video, the first anyone outside had seen of the game in over six years.

-However, in early 2009, and having spent just about all the money they had, that is $20 million, on the game's development over the years, 3DR needed $6 million more to finish the game. They went to Take Two, their publisher (Take Two had bought the publishing rights from Infogrammes, who had inherited them from GT Interactive when they purchased that company, years earlier; Take Two claims they paid $12 million for the rights, though 3DR got none of that money, only Infogrammes.), asking for the money. Take 2 offered $2.5 million, with maybe 2.5 million more upon completion -- we don't know the details. 3DR (ie Miller and Broussard) considered and maybe initially took the money, but then rejected the offer and returned it, if they had taken it. It wasn't enough.

-So, they fired the team in May 2009, when the money ran out, with the project in its later stages. The game had been on schedule to finish in time for a probable release in 2010 -- I think that had Take Two given 3DR the $6 million, the game would be out by now. It was supposed to have been, and it had been on track since '07.

-After this, 3DR was basically reduced to just a couple of employees, most notably Miller and Broussard. However, some of the fired employees didn't want to let the game die after so much work, and with the end in sight. So, nine of them set up a new company, Triptych Games, and continued work on the game. The existence of this company was not revealed until this Friday.

-In May '09 after the events above, Take Two sued 3DR for breach of contract, and 3DR countersued soon after.

-After the collapse of 3DR, many assets of the game in progress leaked, including multiple gameplay videos and animation tests, lots of screenshots, a text file outline of the game's plot, and more. If you watch these videos and then look at the footage of the game in action at PAX, you'll notice that it looks almost identical. It should, the PAX demo is 3DR work polished by Triptych and Gearbox, this we know from statements at the show.

-However, that small group wasn't enough to finish the game, they needed more developers. So, in late 2009, Gearbox started work on finishing the game. They are not making a new game, but, working with Triptych, 3DR (Miller and Broussard), and, in some unknown capacity, Piranha Games (we have no idea what they are doing on the project), finishing the game 3DR was so close to completing for the PC, and making the PS3 and 360 ports (I've never heard that 3DR was working on the console versions internally at any time, though I could be wrong of course).

-In June or July of 2010, a settlement was reached to the lawsuits. We do not know the details of the settlement in any detail, and what we do know raises a lot of unanswered questions. We might learn more tomorrow at Gearbox's event, I'm hoping we do. We'll see though. Anyway, what we do know is that Take Two has publishing rights for the game forever. Gearbox now owns the Duke Nukem IP and the game. What we don't know is, why did Gearbox get the IP? I really want to know what forced Miller and Broussard to sell off their prime IP, and what if anything they got for it... I mean, 3DR is pretty much gone now. What are they going to do now? Will they get royalties from the game to maybe rebuild something if it does well, or are they just done? That would be pretty sad, with the game actually almost out... But we don't know, we'll see.

-The game was revealed at PAX 2010, playable, to be released in 2011.

So yeah, that's the actual story of the game's progress in the past few years.

Nisi video dobro, napisao sam 2 Days to Vegas, a ne This is Vegas, permutovao si posto su slicni naslovi :)
Igra je u razvoju vec 8 godina i najverovatnije ce da je scrapuju, posisala je preko 40 miliona dolara tokom razvoja. Ok, mozda vremenski development nije koliko i kod Duke-a ali je novcani vise nego duplo skuplji.

Sta mislite kako ce igra da sljaka na PS3? Gearbox je do sada radio dobar posao za PS3, ovo pitam zato sto engine nije njihov, vec je ID Tech 4 cini mi se?

Yeah, planina ljudi ce kupiti igru ma kakva da je [a bice sigurno iznad "proseka"]. Kontam da ce biti extra ako bude bolja od recimo Singularity-a [koji nije losha igra].

Da, stvarno sam pomešao. Nikada nisam čuo za 2 Days to Vegas,a i za This is Vegas je baš rečeno da je potrošeno 40 miliona dolara na igru :)


Nego, koji se engine koristi? Da li su onda ostali na Unrealu 2?

Ne ocekujem nista posebno, jedan FPS sa dosta dobrih fazona, cool muzikom i duke-ovim provalama... dosta remake-a klasicnih Duke Nukem 3D fora i mozda nekakvim co op-om ili mp-om. Sumnjam da ce biti best shooter ever... ali trenutno stanje na FPS sceni i nije nesto specijalno, nema stvarno raznovrsnih naslova sve je na isti kalup u zadnje vreme mnogo gore nego ikada ranije, tako da DNF moze u finom trenutku da uleti i ostavi dobar utisak ma kakav bio zbog toga sto ce se razlikovati od mainstreama.
